This year the Callignee Wildlife Shelter has treated hundreds of Australia's precious native animals. Some of these have been the rare and endangered Greater Glider.
Bushfires, drought, storms, floods and more commonly, road trauma are contributing factors to the increase of animals in need of help. The general urban sprawl has seen native habitats devastated and animals wandering into built up areas has also played it's part in seeing more and more injured and displaced animals.
Saving and rehabilitating our wildlife comes at great cost to the dedicated team of volunteers who run the wildlife shelters around Australia. The cost of veterinary bills for surgery and life saving drugs runs into the hundreds of dollars each year. Bandages, syringes, heat pads, cages, creams and pathology costs are all mounting up, not to mention the cost of fresh fruit, specialised milk powders and feed.
The cost of petrol alone is crippling to most small shelters. The volunteers are on call seven days a week to help with injured and sick animals that are hit on our roads or discovered injured in back yards and parks. Due to the never ending feeding and care schedule that a young animal requires, most carers have difficulty in maintaining permanent full time work and therefore must make the commitment to part time work in order to be available around the clock for feeding.

SPONSORSHIP
Sponsor one of the native Aussies and your funds will help to rehabilitate and release the animal back into the wild. For your sponsorship of $260 per year (that's only $5 a week) you and your family will receive a photo of your sponsored animal and progress reports. In the unfortunate event that the animal you are sponsoring dies your generous sponsorship will go directly to sponsoring another animal and another photo and report will be sent.
